Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill is the prestige cuvée of Pol Roger, conceived in 1975 and first released as a 1975 vintage in 1984 — a tribute to Sir Winston Churchill, a lifelong Pol Roger customer whose enthusiasm for the maison became legendary. The cuvée is bottled only in declared years.
The assemblage is Pinot Noir-led with a Chardonnay component, drawn exclusively from grand cru parcels Pol Roger has never publicly named — the only Pol Roger cuvée built on a confidential parcel selection. Long ageing on the lees (around a decade) and a low dosage frame a wine designed to express what the maison considers Churchill's preferred style: full-bodied, structured, and able to age. After Sir Winston's death in 1965, Pol Roger added a black mourning border to its UK-market labels, retained to this day.
