First released in 1952 (vintage 1952), Comtes de Champagne is Taittinger's vintage Blanc de Blancs and one of the reference wines for the style. It is made exclusively from Chardonnay sourced from the five grand cru villages of the Côte des Blancs — Avize, Cramant, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger and Chouilly.

A small proportion of the base wines (around 5%) is fermented in oak barrels, lending texture and ageing capacity. The wine spends roughly a decade on lees in the chalk cellars of the abbey of Saint-Nicaise in Reims before release. A rosé version exists, blended with red wine from Bouzy.
