Prélude is Taittinger's grand cru-only NV cuvée — every vineyard parcel is rated 100% on the Échelle des Crus. The assemblage is built equally on Chardonnay (from grand cru villages of the Côte des Blancs — Avize, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Chouilly) and Pinot Noir (from grand cru villages of the Montagne de Reims — Mailly, Ambonnay), with no Meunier.

The cuvée sits between the Brut Réserve and the maison's vintage and prestige lines (Comtes de Champagne, Collection). Long ageing on the lees and a low brut dosage frame what the maison positions as the "prélude" to its top tier — a grand-cru-restricted NV designed to showcase Taittinger's holdings on both sides of the Champagne stylistic spectrum.
